It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Jan. 28, 2013)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had a good reading week this past week. With the new semester, I decided to start listing the books I read to, with, and for my elementary classes. This week you can find that post here which talks about the ten picture books I read.

Here is my other reading. This week everything was a book I received for review.
Shattered Souls by Delilah Devlin was an urban fantasy/paranormal romance that I chose from the Amazon Vine program. It will be released on Jan. 29. I enjoyed the characters and the rekindled romance. You can read my review here.

The Last Station Master: A Boy, A Terrorist, A Secret, and Trouble by S.A.M. Posey was a fun, exciting middle grade adventure story that is sort of a modernized House of Dies Drear. I liked the characters and thought middle graders would enjoy the fast pace and the adventure. My review will be posted on Jan. 31 just prior to this book's Feb. 1 release.
Othermoon by Nina Berry is her second book in this series about shapeshifters. I enjoyed this one. I liked the main character Dez. Her strength is her weakness as she is so confident that she doesn't let others in on her plans which causes her relationship with her boyfriend to end. This one is for older YAs. I think they will like the adventure and be sympathetic to Dez when her romance fails. My review is here for this Jan. 29 release.

I got Falling for Her Fiancé by Cindi Madsen for review from Entangled Publishing. I will be reviewing it on Wednesday as part of the blog tour for the book. I thought it was all right. The characters were interesting people. But I thought the pacing of the book was a little uneven. So much time was spent convincing us that both characters were afraid to try to change their friendship into a romance that the ending felt rushed to me. Look for my review on Jan 30.
I am currently reading Not Quite Dating by Catherine Bybee. I got this contemporary romance ARC from the Amazon Vine program. I am enjoying the story so far but am worried about what will happen when the heroine learns that the hero has been lying to her all along. He is a millionaire whose family owns the hotel where she thinks he is a waiter.

Next Week is another all review book week. Here are the books on the top of the stack.
Young Adult Books
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer is next. This is the second book in her Lunar Chronicles series and will be released on Feb. 5. I loved Cinder and can't wait to read this one.

Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black is a mystery that I got from NetGalley. It looks like it might have some paranormal elements too. It will be released on Feb. 12.

I got Hattie Ever After by Kirby Larson from NetGalley too. It is the sequel to Newbery Honor book Hattie Big Sky and is historical fiction. It will also be released on Feb. 12.
Adult Books
I got The Spanish Revenge by Allan Topol from Meryl Moss Media Relations. I have read another thriller by this author. This book was released last September.

I chose The Buckhorn Legacy by Lori Foster from the Amazon Vine catalog on the strength of the author's name. As best I can tell this is a retitled, re-released book that was called Casey in 2002. I haven't ever read the series and will be interested to see how the story holds up. I do know I have more Buckhorn books on my Kindle too.

Along with a stack of picture books, these are my plans for the week. What do you have planned?

  8. I hope you enjoy Scarlet! I heard mixed things about it from a girl I know who seemed to love Cinder, so I'm wondering if it lives up to the first book. The whole series has me really intrigued, but I might wait till all four are released so I don't have to be so impatient in between. Happy reading!
