Description: The Hidden Legacy series by New York Times best-selling author Ilona Andrews continues as Nevada and Rogan navigate a world where magic is the norm...and their relationship burns hot.
Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill - she knows when people are lying - and she's used that magic (along with plain hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.
Rogan is a billionaire Prime - the highest rank of magic user - and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada's talent. But there's no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice.
My Thoughts: This second book in the Hidden Legacy series brings Nevada a new case. The wife of Cornelius Harrison, an animal mage, has died along with three colleagues while working as a lawyer for a House and now the House is trying to bury the investigation. Cornelius has tried everyone else and he has come to Baylor Investigations as his last resort. Nevada feels sorry for him and wants to help him.
It soon becomes apparent that something bigger is going on. There is no reason that the House Nori worked for would be failing to investigate. Sure, Cornelius is a minor talent and the third child of his House but he should still be important enough not to dismiss.
Things get even more complicated when "Mad" Rogan comes on the scene. Nevada hasn't seen him since the end of their first case and things then were not left in a satisfactory state. After asking her to go away with him and Nevada refusing, Rogan disappeared from her life. Now, it was his people who were assigned to protect Nori and her colleagues and he has recordings showing what happened to the whole group which shows him that a number of Primes were involved in the massacre.
Nevada and Rogan team up to solve the mystery of Nori's death and try to find out what sort of conspiracy is going on in Houston. They had hints of it in the first book and this story provides more information about the goals and spread of the conspiracy.
The book was filled with exciting scenes with fascinating magic. It also had the growing romance between Rogan and Nevada which was hot and fascinating. Rogan is a very scary man with unbelievable powers who scares everyone. Nevada isn't afraid of him and has enough power of her own to meet him as an equal.
Nevada has been keeping under the radar in magical Houston. She isn't and acknowledged Prime and doesn't want to be. Her goal is to protect her family which includes her two younger sisters and two younger cousins along with her mother and grandmother. But her secret is about to be exposed because her father's mother has come looking for her. Victoria Tremayne is infamous for the use of her powers which are the same as Nevada's and she definitely needs to add Nevada to her House or the House will end with her death. She is ruthless and determined.
Nevada's only hope is to step into the light and declare herself a Prime and form a House. The problem is that it will mean exposing her sister's talents too - talents they have kept carefully hidden to protect them.
This was a great audiobook with excellent narration.
