It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (December 13, 2021)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

This was another quiet week. We finally got some snow but not nearly what had been predicted for us. The ground has a nice covering of white. Unfortunately, because it started with a wintry mix, the roads are also still covered with icy snow. Luckily, I don't need to go anywhere.

I watched The Voice and the Minnesota Vikings' football game this week. Otherwise, the television was turned off and I kept myself busy reading, playing games on my computer, and listening to audiobooks. A couple of new arrivals jumped to the head of the line, but I am still almost finished with my January review books.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • Lightning in a Mirror by Jayne Ann Krentz (Review; January 18) -- This book finished up the Fogg Lake trilogy and was another entertaining paranormal romantic suspense title. My review will be posted on January 12.
  • Her Second Death by Melinda Leigh (Review; December 7) -- This is a short story prequel to the Bree Taggart series of suspense titles. It was a good introduction to the characters. I reviewed it on LibraryThing and Goodreads.
  • How to Love Your Neighbor by Sophie Sullivan (Review; January 18) -- This was a nice contemporary romance with engaging characters. My review will be posted on January11.
  • Curse of Salem by Kay Hooper (Review; December 28) -- This is the 20th book (or so) in the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series of paranormal mysteries. I've read quite a few of them over the years since the series began. My review will be posted on December 29.
  • Written in Red by Anne Bishop (Audiobook) -- I felt the need to grab a book I never get tired of rereading.
  • Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop (Audiobook) -- Once I began the Others series, I knew I had to keep reading until I have finished it. I love the characters.
  • Desolation Canyon by P. J. Tracy (Review; January 18) -- This gritty thriller is the second book in the Margaret Nolan series set in Southern California. It has a lot of action and a twisty plot told from multiple viewpoints. My review will be posted on January 13.
  • Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop (Audiobook) -- This is the third book in a series I have read and reread multiple times. I never get tired of the story or characters.
DNF
  • Rancher's Forgotten Rival by Maisey Yates (Review; January 25) -- I really dislike first person stream of consciousness writing. After spending just a few pages inside the heads of the main characters, I decided I didn't like them and couldn't face spending more time reading the book.

  1. I don’t know how you all find the courage to drive on icy roads, it looks terrifying.

  3. Quiet weeks can be so nice.

I'm not a fan of icy roads. I travel on them, but hate doing it.

I'm glad to see you didn't spend more time with a book that wasn't for you. I need to get better at that. Absence of Mallets looks good.

Hope you have a nice week. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  4. No winter-weather driving is one of the best things about being in FL this time of year... glad you don't have to contend with it on a daily basis.

You have a nice selection of books this week - enjoy!

  5. Not that I'm wishing for snow, but I do wish we'd get closer to winter. We keep having days of intense (for December) heat and we're getting bad storms. Friday was bad and it looks like Wednesday will be hot again so who knows what storms might come from that! Regular ol snow would be nice instead of that! Lol.

Hope you enjoy your reads for this week!

    Here's my Monday Wrap-up

  6. So many interesting books on your list. I have to check out Jane Austen's Lost Letters. That looks really good. Have a great week!

  7. As usual, the urban fiction and cozy mysteries are the most appealing to me! We had a dusting of snow that didn't stick to the roads, and then stayed decoratively on the cold ground, so not a bad way to have snow in December!

  8. How to Love Your Neighbor sounds delightful.

I'm glad you don't have to go anywhere on those icy roads. I hope your brother stays safe.

  10. Snow. Don't like snow, especially on the bike, with regular sized wheels. And yeah for rereading The Others series, it's always so great! I'm so excited for Crow Bones coming next year! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
