It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (July 4, 2022)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

After seeing no improvement to my persistent cough, I headed back to Urgent Care on Saturday. This time I am being treated for Acid Reflex or, maybe, allergies. A chest x-ray showed nothing of note which helped to eliminate some things. I should also have an appointment coming up soon with my regular doctor as the nurse practitioner I saw was setting one up. I suppose I'll hear later in the week. This Monday holiday does throw things off. Besides a massive case of heartburn which woke me up at 2 AM, I am feeling better and coughing much less. I'm hoping that the cough medicine with codeine was the cause of the heartburn. I'll skip it tonight to see.

I'm trying to get ahead on my review books with limited success since I keep getting distracted by audiobooks that I want to read right away. I've also been watching lots of baseball.

Our solar monitoring system has been repaired, so I've spent some time checking how much solar energy we're creating. One the new card was inserted the system did catch up for the days it wasn't working. However, there is a ten-day period at the beginning of June which remain blank. We did get a power bill which tells us that June brought us a $24 credit which adds to last month's credit of $9. We need lots of sunny days the rest of the summer and fall to build up credit for the winter months when the sun is lower in the sky and the panels are often covered with snow. Today began with a sunny morning but the clouds have rolled in, and thunderstorms are expected. The same is expected for tomorrow which might make it difficult for the fireworks show.

June Report

I read 33 books in June with a total of 11.409 pages and 188 hours of listening. Nineteen were my books including the 16 audiobooks. Fourteen were review books.

I added 33 books to my stack in June. Thirty are still unread. Eleven were audiobooks and thirteen were review books. Five of my new additions were free, three were Kindle Daily Deals, and one was an Audible Daily Deal. I added four audiobooks from Chirp this month too.

Here's my State of the Stack post which gathers together new review books, review books read or DNFed, and links to newly posted reviews.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • Crowbones by Anne Bishop (Mine; Audiobook Reread) -- Most recent in The Others series was a twisty tale. I reviewed it recently and won't be reviewing it again now.
  • Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin (Review; July 5) -- An intriguing story that is very hard to classify. It has elements of romance and is also about a long term friendship. My review will be posted on July 9
  • Iced by Felix Francis (Review; July 12) -- Another entertaining thriller by Felix Francis. A former steeplechase jockey solves a mystery. My review will be posted on July 13.
  • The Hiding Place by Paula Munier (Mine) -- This is the third Mercy Carr and Elvis mystery and was an entertaining story. My review will be posted on July 12.
  • Grace Under Fire by Julie Garwood (Review; July 19) -- Fun romantic suspense title with great main characters. My review will be posted on July 14.
  • A Liaden Constellation Volume 1 by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller (Audiobook) -- Nice collection of stories from the Liaden Universe. I've read them before, but they were great to listen to - all 19 hours of it. My review will be posted on July 19.
  • The Wedding Plot by Paula Munier (Review; July 19) -- The fourth in the Mercy Carr and Elvis mystery series. This was an excellent mystery. My review will be posted on July 19.

  3. I hope they figure out what's going on with your cough. I'm in the same situation. They are saying it's either allergies or acid reflux. It could be either but I really need something to relieve it. I've used everything and nothing works.

Hope you have a great week!

  11. Hope you're feeling better soon! And sounds like a pretty decent reading month, lots of great stats! And some really great books read and reviewed, Anne Bishop always delivers a great read! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!

  12. I hope your doctors figure out your cough soon. When I complained of a cough that only appears after eating greasy food (like pizza), my doctor first advised me to avoid greasy food then told me to try taking Tagamet if I must have it because she thought the cough might be from acid reflux. It worked like a charm. It doesn't make sense to me, but obviously a cough can be related to acid reflux.

I'm always impressed by the amount of reading you get done.

    Enjoy your week!

  13. Yikes! I hope you get relief from your cough soon! How frustrating that you still don't know what it is! Anyway, other than that, I hope you can enjoy the week! - Melinda @ A Web of Stories

  14. Sorry to hear about your persistent cough. That's no fun! It's good that they're ruling out things, but it also doesn't help you get better, which is frustrating, I'm sure.
