It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (November 14, 2022)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

I had a nice November week. Most of the week was warmer than usual. Then came Thursday with thunderstorms and a steep temperature drop. I drove my brother to his annual eye checkup on Thursday through the rain. There was snow on the grassy areas Friday and some still remains on Sunday.

I spent most of the week listening to selections from one of my favorite series - the Liaden Universe by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller. Along with Owls Well that Ends Well I listened for about 70 hours. Now I need to switch back to reading my December 6 review books or I'll get horribly behind on my calendar.

I also spent time watching election results. Most of the candidates I voted for won their seats. The only exception was my US Congressman which was a disappointment. I was pleased that the Democrats won control of the Minnesota governorship, State Senate and State House though. I was also pleased that no Red Wave occurred this time. My Democrats did quite well all around.

I'll be watching the Vikings play football shortly and working on filling out upcoming posts in Blogger. This week is appointment-free.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • The Gathering Edge by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller (Audiobook Reread)
  • Murder on the Class Trip by Lee Hollis (Review; November 29) -- Average cozy mystery. Two female detective - both with husband problems - accompany their children on a class trip to Washington DC where they need to solve the murder of a senator's staffer. My review will be posted on November 24.
  • Neogenesis by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller (Audiobook Reread)
  • Owls Well that Ends Well by Donna Andrews (Chirp Audiobook) -- Another entertaining and engaging mystery in the Meg Langslow series. This is the sixth. My review will be posted on December 6.
  • Rescue My Heart by Jill Shalvis (Mine since November 8, 2012) -- Entertaining contemporary romance with the "second chance at love" trope. The characters were well-developed and interesting people. My review will be posted on November 26.
DNF
  • Bread Over Troubled Water by Winnie Archer (Review; November 29) -- I abandoned this one early. The first few pages introduced - with detailed descriptions - what felt like dozens of characters. I couldn't keep them straight and didn't know if I needed too.

  • Capture the Crown by Jennifer Estep (BookBub; $1.99)
  • Public Secrets by Nora Roberts (BookBub, $1.99) -- a Nora Roberts that I don't already own
  • Rescue My Heart by Jill Shalvis (Kindle) -- a Kindle copy of a paperback from TBR mountain with print that is too small.

  1. You have snow already? We're still in the last gasps of Autumn here! I'm glad to see you pulling a ten year old book out of the stacks - not just me that leaves books unread so long ;-)

  3. I am very pleased with the blue outcome and the control of the Senate going to the Dems. It's about time things have moved in that direction.

Enjoy your books and may the snow be just enough without being too troublesome.

  4. I'm so relieved that the Red Wave never materialized. I'm *still* checking results (mostly the gov in Arizona, where my dad lives. I'm really hoping the crazy lady doesn't win!).

My kids would be so jealous that you already have snow. Well, one of my kids. I saw I have a Minnesota child and an Arizona child. My daughter is the Minnesota child and she loves the cold. Her brother is the complete opposite. Have a great week! - Melinda @ A Web of Stories

  5. Be still my heart - A Hard Day for a Hangover, can't wait till it publishes. Even though I live in New Zealand I still watched the results of the mid terms with hope, thank goodness no big red wave that might lead the awful DT to stand again. If he got in I think we could give up all hope of a better world.

  6. I need to get those Sci-fi books for my hubby. He is recovering from hernia surgery and needs something to amuse himself. :)

  7. It's gotten cold here too after a nice few weeks of warm weather. I really enjoyed the Tasha Alexander books I read. I think I read the first three or four in that series. Kinda miss those.

  8. I was Orlando all weekend, so the weather was nice. Came home today to cold temps, wind, and the threat of our first bit of snow tomorrow night. I don't know if I am ready.

What fun books this week. Well Traveled and Flight Risk look good. I will need to check out your review of Calling.

Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.

  10. I've been watching the election results too. I'm still worried about the House, but we'll see what happens. I was glad about the Senate, though.

Those books all look so good. I hope you enjoy them. Have a great week!
