ARC Review: Lie to Her by Melinda Leigh

Lie to Her

Author:
Melinda Leigh
Series: Bree Taggert (Book 6)
Publication: Montlake (January 17, 2023)

Description: Lies from the heart lead to a dangerously intimate case for Sheriff Bree Taggert in #1 Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh’s novel of revenge and fatal deceptions.

When a digital marketer is found murdered in his backyard―hands bound and face smothered by plastic wrap―Sheriff Bree Taggert and criminal investigator Matt Flynn respond to the call. Their investigation focuses on the man’s dating-app profile and the word liar carved into his forehead.

One day later, the killer strikes again.

Both victims are players in the internet dating scene. In their wake, they leave a trail of hurt―and angry―women. But Bree and Matt aren’t convinced the motive is as simple as it appears. Everyone they interview seems to be lying or hiding something.

As the list of suspects grows, the killer’s rage escalates, and he leaves a personal and deadly warning for Bree. They must act fast. Because someone Bree loves is targeted as the next to die.

My Thoughts: The sixth Bree Taggert mystery is centered around on-line dating. The first victim is a man who was a serial dater. He was found in his home with his wrists and ankles zip tied, with plastic wrap all around his head, and the word liar carved into his forehead.

The next day there is a second victim who was also zip tied, wrapped in plastic wrap, and with the word cheater carved into his forehead.

Bree and her boyfriend/chief investigator Matt are soon deep into investigating the various dating apps and women who dated both men. And it seems that everyone is lying. Meanwhile, the killer has his own plans for a victim who lies close to Bree's heart.

I enjoyed this police procedural. I also liked seeing the relationship with Bree and Matt deepening. Bree has changed so much since she came home to solve her sister's murder and became the instant mother to her sister's two children. She is learning to let people into her life.

Favorite Quote:
Matt jerked his head toward Bree's thick boots. "If we were TV cops, you'd have to wear stilettos, though."

Bree shrugged, as if unconcerned. "Not for long. The case would be solved in under an hour."

"So true." Matt led the way out of the studio.
