It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (January 9, 2023)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...
Our front yard

We received another 8 inches of snow this week. We also had a couple of days with ice fog which made for low visibility and slippery roads. But as I'm writing this on Sunday afternoon, the sun is shining, and my brother has been removing snow from the solar panels that he can reach with our snow rake. There isn't any snow in the forecast for a few days.
Our mailbox to show just how deep the snow is at the street.

I had a great reading week and have almost regained the two-week cushion I like to have on my blog. I'm further ahead with audiobooks than my review books or Kindle books.

I also spent some time looking at my February calendar and decided to fill in the gaps around my review books with books that I added in 2021 which will let me reduce the number of books on my TBR stack just a little bit.
I did some book rearranging too. I tightened up my physical TBR pile from three sections of shelves to two. My next step is to look at each book and decided if I still want to read it. I think a lot of them can go into my donate pile. And with a whole empty section, I can move some books from my crowded library to this extra space. Moving books will be a slow process though. My library is downstairs, and this empty space is upstairs. I need to find a box so that I can move more than a handful at one time. Just the thought of moving 4000 books around is making me tired.

This week's cooking adventures included trying a new recipe for Green Chili Enchiladas and another new recipe for Smoky Black Eyed Pea Soup. I made the enchiladas, and my brother made the soup. Both were good and will go into our keeper stack of recipes.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • The Devil You Know by P. J. Tracy (Review; January 17) -- Newest in the Margaret Nolan series is filled with Hollywood detail. It has complex characters and is told from multiple viewpoints. My review will be posted on January 12.
  • Beyond by Mercedes Lackey (Mine; Kindle & Audiobook) -- This was a reread but first listen to a book that tells about the founding of Valdemar. My review will be posted on January 24,
  • Until We Touch by Susan Mallery (Mine since March 31, 2021) -- This is the romance between Jack and Larissa and was an engaging "friends to lovers" romance. My review will be posted on January 17.
  • A Call to Insurrection by David Weber, Timothy Zahn and Thomas Pope (Mine; Kindle & Audiobook) -- This latest in a space opera series set early in the Honorverse was an engaging story. My review will be posted January 28.
  • Kris Longknife: Defender by Mike Shepherd (Mine) == 11th book in the Kris Longknife series continues her adventures. My review will be posted on January 17.
  • Against the Currant by Olivia Matthews (Review; January 24) -- First in a new cozy series set in Brooklyn with a Grenadian main character who needs to find out who killed a rival baker in order to clear her name and save her new business. My review will be posted on January 18.
  • A Fashionable Fatality by Alyssa Maxwell (Review; January 24) -- This is the eighth in a historical mystery series but stood alone well. I enjoyed that the Lady and the Lady's maid managed to investigate both upstairs and downstairs. My review will be posted on January 19.
  • The Cipher by Isabella Maldonado (Mine; Kindle & Audiobook) -- This thriller introduces FBI Agent Nina Guerrara. She was a foster child abducted by a serial killer but managed to escape. Now 11 years later he's tracked her down and eager to finish what he started. My review will be posted February 2)
  • Exile, Texas by Rachel Caine (Mine since March 20, 2022) -- One of the author's earliest romantic suspense titles was a great story. My review will be posted on January 21.
Currently
  • Night Call by Brenden Carlson (Mine) -- This book is alternate history/science fiction/mystery and is the first in a series. The second is on my Review stack.

Review:
Bought:

I watched a Launch Party on YouTube and became curious about the author's work. I used some of my Kindle Rewards points to get $3 off books over $3.
Here are the other books that caught my eye this week.
Since I enjoyed The Cipher, I decided to buy the next two in the Nina Guerrera series in Kindle & Audiobook. As Add-ons, the audiobooks were $1.99 each.
What was your week like?

  1. I am currently reading A Colebridge Quilted Christmas by Ann Hazelwood. I hope to finish it this week and be able to start a new story.

  2. Exile, Texas sounds like a good one. I bet your green enchiladas were delicious. 4000 books? Wow, you need a book elevator. :D

  3. Wow! That mailbox!

I don't envy you the task of reorganizing your library. Good luck!

  4. I do moan about the rain, but I can see that the snow would be much more challenging!

Enjoy those books and your week.

  5. Wow, so much snow!

When I still had print books, I always loved organizing and re-organizing my books. I didn't enjoy carrying around boxes of them to re-arrange, though.

I'm currently reading Against the Currant and enjoying it, so far.

Hope you have a great week!

  7. Wow look at the snow! I often think Michigan and Minnesota are similar weather- wise (although I think you get harder with winter than we do) but ours all melted.

    the enchiladas sound great :)

  9. That is a lot of snow! I don't think I've ever seen that much snow in my area. Getting a foot or two causes a mad panic! No, getting an INCH or two causes a mad panic...a foot is pure CHAOS! Lol!

Nice lineup of reads! All new to me ones here but I hope you will enjoy them all!

    Here's my Monday Wrap-up

  10. We've had just rain, but got our first dusting of snow this morning. I'm sure our time is coming!
Your book collection is huge! We have started weeding our books, but the amounts are a bit easier to manage. Still, it's hard to let them go.

  11. Keeping the solar panels free from snow must be time consuming, especially when you’ve had so much!
I’m sure you’ll have the bookcase filled in no time.

Wishing you a great reading week

  13. Well, I'm feeling kind of peevish right now. After reading your reviews on GoodReads, I really wanted to read The Marann. Alas, neither of my libraries have a copy!
Our snow is finally melting, but we don't have nearly what you have!
Good luck with your reading this week, and with moving those books!

  15. Urgh, snow. We were lucky, we didn't get any for 2 months, and now it's snowed 3 times in the past week. And yeah for a good reading week, and consolidating the TBR pile! Good luck with moving those books! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
