It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (May 4, 2020)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

This was still another week when I didn't leave the house except to go for solo walks around my neighborhood. The weather improved enough that I could walk outside for three days without winter clothes. Today was lovely but very windy. It made me glad for my large, clunky, earmuff-like headphones.
The charts shows that we had pretty sunny weather except for a rainy day on Tuesday and a rainy morning on Thursday. Our power bill arrived and showed an even bigger credit than last month. I'm hoping this coming week has a lot of sunny days since I enjoy getting out and walking around the neighborhood.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed the changes of release dates for review books. Three of the ones on the calendar for me to read in early May have had their release dates changed to early June instead. I read and am reading them now anyway because I already have quite a few on the calendar with the same June release dates. None of them have changed dates so far.

I have quite a few books to read for early June release that sound good. It makes me want to skip ahead and read those especially since the book I'm slogging through now isn't keeping my interest.

April Report

I added 42 books to my LibraryThing account. Ten were audiobooks. All of the audiobooks were duplicates of books already in my collection. Ten books were free including the four Murderbot books from Tor.com. Fifteen were review books. Thirty of them are still to be read.

I read 26 books in April. Twenty of them were mine with 14 being rereads and one from TBR mountain. I listened to 18 audiobooks this month. I only read one print book this month which was a review copy sent to me by the author. I did read six review books.

I read a total of 9174 pages including the print length of the audiobooks. I don't keep track of the time I spend listening but it's got to be more than 100 hours since Written in Red alone is 18 hours and 33 minutes.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)

  • Crystal Soldier by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (Audiobook) - I listened to this book that I likely haven't revisited since it was published in 2005. It tells about early days and the ancestors of the characters in the Liaden Universe books I reread frequently. My review will be published May 20.
  • A Study in Murder by Callie Hutton (Review; June 9) - This was an entertaining historical mystery set in Bath in 1890 where secret mystery author Lady Amy finds herself in a real life murder mystery when her former fiance is found dead in her father's library. My review will be posted on May 5.
  • To Kill a Mocking Girl by Harper Kincaid (Review; June 9) - This is a contemporary cozy mystery starring a bookbinder who stumbles on the body of one of the mean girls from who high school who has recently become engaged to an ex of the heroine. My review will be posted on May 6.

  • Crystal Dragon by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (Audiobook) - This is one LIaden story that isn't on my frequent reread list. I find parts of it to be a little confusing which wasn't helped by listening to it. My review will be posted on May 26.
  • Lake Silence by Anne Bishop (Audiobook) - I reread and reviewed this recently but needed a favorite book to listen to while I was walking.
  • Fledgling by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (Audiobook) - I reread and reviewed this one recently but needed something to listen to while I was walking and chose this part of the Liaden Universe to revisit.

Currently

  • A Spell for Trouble by Esme Addison (Review; June 9) - This one has been slow going. I'm reading other things around it.
  • Saltation by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (Audiobook) - This is a reread and my "walking book."

  1. It is so nice to walk outside with out winter clothes on! I am quicker to get out there. We have some cooler weather headed our way, but hopefully it won't require the winter coat! Looking forward to the Nora Roberts book.

  3. Glad you're at least able to get out in the sunshine for some walks - it's been cold here, too (and very rainy) until this weekend...and that nasty weather is returning.

I am still amazed by how many books you can read in a month! And such an interesting variety, too - wonderful!

I can tell you from my own experience the past few months that it's VERY difficult to promote a new book with the bookstores all closed and people so distracted by the pandemic. I think a lot of publishers are postponing release dates (just like the movies are doing, too).

    Enjoy your books this week!

  4. Some really interesting books in your list! We've had some unseasonably warm weather through April in the UK - which was very welcome after have floods in February!
I'd love to get into audiobooks but I think I need a UK accent, the ones I've tried have had US male narrators and I've found the combination of voice and accent too distracting.

  5. You had a great reading month for April. I have a few of those cozies on my list too. They all look great. Have a wonderful week!

  6. Your cozies look the most appealing to me right now. I suspect that those books are more lighthearted and palatable for me now.

Enjoy your week and thanks for visiting my blog.

  7. Seems like winter doesn't want to leave your corner of the world. It's been years since I read an Amanda Quick book. Have a great reading week!

  8. We have cooler weather coming back again this week after just one really nice spring day on Saturday! I just downloaded a free book from Tor today, but I'm jealous of all your free Murderbot books!

  9. I'm glad your weather seems to be becoming nicer.

I've heard that a lot of publication dates are being pushed back. It makes sense. A lot of publishing takes place in New York.

Look at all that reading! Wow!

  10. That is awesome, about your sunshine and reading!

I had heard that about the publication dates. It seems like the whole world is just on hold right now.

    Enjoy your walks!

  11. Yeah, there's been a few publication date push backs. Which from a reading perspective is both good and bad-more time to read them, but like you said, those books originally going to be published then, haven't all been moved, so there's more to read by then. But go reading! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
