Happy Friday everybody!!

Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.
If you like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence.

The Friday 56
Rules:
  • Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
  • Turn to page 56.
  • Find the fifth sentence.
  • Post that sentence (plus one or two others if you like) along with these instructions on your blog or (if you do not have your own blog) in the comments section of Freda's Voice
  • Post a link along with your post back to Freda's Voice
Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

I received The China Gambit by Allan Topol for review recently. This is a thriller about a former CIA agent who has to foil a Chinese plot and try to find out who killed his daughter, Francesca, who was an investigative reporter. I like a good thriller once in a while and am eager to dig into this one.

Beginning:
Leaving suite 2100 in the Hyatt Regency and clutching her reporter's steno pad, Francesca Page was excited, more excited than she'd ever been before.
Doesn't that make you want to know what made her excited? I know I wanted to keep reading to find out what secret she had discovered.

Friday 56:
She walked rapidly, almost running, along the oil slick road toward the cab.
This is a short sentence but I could feel the tension. Since I am only on page 3 when I am preparing this post, I am really curious to know who she is and why she feels the need for speed.
